Scottish Seabird
Returning to Scotland in 2025 gave me the opportunity to continue exploring one of my favourite subjects—its remarkable seabirds. Through regular visits to islands, nature reserves and coastlines, I document each species in sketches, notes and watercolours, building a growing archive of observations.

This is an ongoing project that evolves season by season, following the lives of Scotland's seabirds and my own journey of learning alongside them.

2026

In 2026, I began slowing down and spending more time with individual species rather than simply recording sightings. I found myself returning again and again to watch Puffins, Arctic Terns and Guillemots, following their daily lives and behaviours throughout the breeding season. This is an ongoing project that continues to grow with every visit to Scotland's coast.

2025

Although I was away from Scotland in 2025, I continued creating illustrations inspired by its seabirds. Returning the following year allowed me to reconnect those drawings with field observation and continue this project in person.

2024

2024 marked the beginning of my Scottish Seabirds project.

Throughout the summer, I returned to the Isle of May and Bass Rock several times, observing the seabirds month by month as the breeding season unfolded. Each visit brought something new, and I found myself becoming more interested in slowing down, noticing small changes, and recording what I saw through sketches and notes.

That summer also led to my first field sketchbook zine, Sketchbook of Scottish Seabirds. Looking back, it feels like a turning point. It was the moment I realised that this was what I wanted to keep doing—returning to the same places, following the lives of birds over time, and building a long-term practice rooted in observation, illustration, and curiosity.
